Coran's Son Runs Amuck
Optimus Prime tells us how everyone wass overjoyed when they found Coran's son Garrett--who was really an evil clone.
Voltron fights with the robeast. Keith maneuvers Voltron so that the robeast is in the way of the pulsar cannon. Lotor lands in his flagship and enters the cannon. The troops manning the cannon won't fire at the robeast until Lotor orders them to. When the cannon fires, the foundation begins to crack. The lions grab the robeast in their jaws, and disconnect as the cannon blast destroys it. The five lions crash all over the countryside.
Lotor gloats and celebrates, and then Garrett calls. He wants his promised starfleet of 10 million clones with him as supreme ruler. Lotor just blows him off and goes back to gloating.
The five lions are inert in the mountains. In castle control, Garrett starts ranting. Some ununiformed guards are drilling into the control room. Coran has them cut the power. Garrett brags that he's an X4-11 clone and has neutrino sensors.
An Arusian tells Coran that Voltron's been shot down. He sends some more troops to try an offensive against the cannon--with the "robot" fleet.
Garrett opens the door, and Nanny tries to reason with him. It doesn't work out, and they end up exchanging fire.
Zarkon calls Lotor, who's apparently drunk. Zarkon tells him Coran has ordered a robot attack that is flying in below the scanners. Really? Lotor sends some fighters to scout out for Voltron. An alarm goes off, and a soldier tells Lotor that a robot fleet is attacking. They open fire on blips--and it's the fleet from Pollux. Which is destroyed by the Pulsar cannon. The cannon foundation cracks just a little more.
In a mountain lake, Keith regains consciousness in black lion. He contacts Pidge, Lance, and Hunk, but not Allura.
Blue lion has crashed near some tents(?) in the mountains, and some guy with a horrible Michael Bell voice and an even more horrible name is caring for the injured Allura and blathers on about leading the force to her with ki. And Zarkon's men were, ahem, digging tunnels. WHile surrounded by grave markers. This weirdo says he summoned a fleet of ships from another dimension to take Coran's wife and son, and built a grave marker to fool everyone. Yu-huh.
Doom fighters suddenly appear and strafe some, um, blue cars. Then the lions appear. They discuss that Garrett was an imposter, and that the pulsar cannon is solar powered. And then Keith says he has to leave the princess behind. Lance and Pidge go outside, and Lance remembers how he grow up in the mountains and lived in huts. Huh?! Then the four take off again, leaving Allura while blue lion is being repaired.
Lotor and his troops are preparing to destroy the castle. Lotor has a huge fleet-that gets downsized by Zarkon. And he twirls his sword in anger at the soldier who tells him Zarkon cut the fleet in half. Then the sun comes up, they prepare to fire--and the four lions start strafing the cannon. Smaller batteries provide AA cover and score hits on red and green lions. When things start to look bad, blue lion arrives. They form Voltron. Then the form the blazing sword and perform a "Pike attack." Which is diving headfirst into the cannon with the sword held out in front of him. Volts destroys part of the control center. Then they drop the sword and twist thebarrell of the cannon until the foundation shatters. Lotor flees in his flagship.
Garrett is still in castle control when the power comes back on. He sees the ruined Pulsar Cannon on the screen. He opens the door out of castle control, and sees Coran and the team in the doorway. Allura confronts him. Garrett fires his "stun gun" and strikes Corran. The rest of the team fire on Garrett as Coran slumps in Hunk's arms. The door closes, and Garrett dies snivelling on the floor.
Outside the castle, Coran is tendering his resignation to Allura for his lapse in judgment, but she refuses. And then we see Voltron posing on planet Nemon on the pedestal of Zarkon;s birthday statue.
The Last of Hys
Oh, my, but this title sounds promising.
The narrator brings us up to speed on Saint, Raible's imposter son and Galra sabetour.
Fala's auxiliary thing in the last episode must have worked, because Golion takes off, still taking fire from the beastman. Kogane flies Golion right into the cannon's sights. It takes .7 seconds for a cannon shot to reach them at that distance. That's how he times the disassembly.
Ah--the Galra trooper confirms that this beastman is Mecha Beastman Beta. And Sincline ruthlessly targets the center of the beastman. Sincline is understandably stoked when he sees Golion fall to the ground in pieces. Then Saint calls. He calls for troops to attack the castle gates. Sincline is in know hurry, tells him to have some wine, and he'll get around to it.
The lions have crashed in the Altea alps.
Raible and some workmen? I dunno--they're not wearing guard uniforms, their in the weird yellow-hooded suits--are drilling into castle control and cut the power. Saint gets a gun out of a locker and turns on the emergency power. Another guy appears and tells them that Golion's been shot down. Hys squeals "HIME!!!" about a hundred times. Raible sends a search party into the Alps.
Saint opens the door and shoots two of the hooded guys. Everyone puts their hands on their heads, except for Hys. Hys keeps blathering on and on, refusing to understand that he's a Galra sabetour. Raible challenges Saint to shoot him. And HIT HYS INSTEAD.
Best. Episode. Ever.
Some more shots are exchanged, and Saint dives back into the control room--but the emergency power is hit.
Goddammit. Even Hys' last words are irritating.
Daibazaal calls up Sincline, who tells him Golion is no more. Daibazaal asks him if he's actually confirm it. Sincline sends four fighters to investigate. An alarm sounds, and a soldier tells Sincline that the Heraclean armada is arriving. Sincline fires the cannon at them and puts a quick end to that threat. We watch the Heraclean ships explode to the strains of violins.
The team regains consciousness, and Kogane freaks out a little when they can't raise the princess. Fala is being cared for by Pao of the Meo tribe. He tells her about a time when their ancestors' graves were desecrated by Galra soldiers, who stole the remains of an outside woman and her child. A woman named Mrs. Raible was killed while carrying her child into the mountains (the ship that hits shoots them looks a little like Sincline's batplane). The son's name was Roland. Pao shows her the graves.
The blue things that were being attacked by Galra fighters? They're the search party Coran sent out. The lions take out the four fighters with no problem. That night, they find out that Hys is dead. Kogane points out that now is the time to strike, while Galra thinks they're dead. Fala must stay behind to repair blue lion with the search party technicians. Suzuishi complains that Kogane's too cold-hearted, but Kurogane says he's giving Fala time to deal with the loss of Hys.
Sincline sees a blip that appears to be blue lion's wreckage. He wants confirmation from the reconnaissance unit. A soldier admits that they lost all transmission from the unit four hours ago. Sincline kills him. The cannon operators lock Heracles in as a target. Just before they fire, the lions start attacking.
Golion combines with the blue lion theme as background.
Glion charges straight down the barrel of the cannon and then twists the barrel down, crumbling the rest of the foundation.
Raible takes a hit when he leaps in front of Fala to protect her from Saint's gunfire. Fortunately, he's only injured. And here, Saint dies sniveling--though it's actually explicit that he's dead.
Raible and Fala are outside, at Hys' grave. He again tries to resign, and Fala refuses.
