The Little Prince
No, not the Nickolodeon cartoon. Yeah I know it's actually an anime series. This was back when Nick pretty much only aired other people's stuff.
Optimus Prime recounts the devastation caused by the Omega Comet. And how Voltron failed and neede a 12-year-old in toga to save Arus. Now Voltron is riding the Omega Comet to the ends of the Universe.
On Arus, the Doom fleet is strafing the crap out of the planet. Lotor forces Romelle to witness his revenge. He vows to destroy everything to the smallest insect, but he's going to start with the castle. We get some weird fast cutting showing Nanny lumped over Coran as they look at Voltron on the Omega Comet.
And then we cut to the Galazy Garrison. It's been a while since we've seen these guys. They talk about sending a support fleet to either Arus or the Omega Comet. They decide they need to recall Prince Bandor.
Coran debates with a "messenger" from Galaxy Garrison.
Aboard the Pollux fleet flagship, Bandor argues with one of his crewmembers. They fire on Voltron, trying to wake someone up down on the comet. When this doesn't work (and goes on waaay too long), he orders his fleet to use "grip beams" to pull Voltron off of the comet. They begin to make some progress until the grip beams begin tearing. Then, suddenly, Lotor's fleet arrives and brwon skullships start shredding the Pollux fleet. The "robot" fleet threatens a mutiny and then turns around to fight. That doesn't work out in their favor. Only the flagship is continuing to pull Voltron off the comet. And, apparently, Coran is protecting the flagship from the attack using Voltron's circuits and by sending energy through the grip beam. Or something.
However, Lotor's ships cut the grip beam and send the flagship tumbling through space. Lotor watches this and gloats from where he is on Arus. Romelle calls him a monster. Lotor sas he's likes the word "robeast" much better. He then deploys a mecha robeast to trash Arus.
In space, Bandor's flagship is hanging in space. The crew regains consciousness and they fly off. To somewhere.
On Arus, the robeast is smashing the planet. Then Galaxy Garrison contacts Coran and there's more meaningless dialogue in an effort to link two disparate series where they haven't really tried before. The robeast is right at the castle gates. People are cowering inside the castle. Naturally, a few start blaming Voltron.
The Omega Comet is suddenly bathed in purple light, and the voice of one of the Robotech Master's clones tells Voltron that it's at the end of the universe. They can choose between the "land of eterna happiness" or returning to Arus to defeat Lotor. They chose Lotor. The, um, whoever she is, gives Voltron the power of a thousand suns. And then tells him they have to leave before the comet dematerializes. The comet crumbles and Voltron escapes. The team has some weird introspection as Voltron flies back Arus.
In his flagship bridge, Lotor now has Romelle hanging from the ceiling. Suddenly, something shoots his ship down. It's Bandor, returning to Arus. He strafes Lotor's grounded ship, and then appears on the screen, challenging Lotor to a fight. Lotor threatens Romelle with his sword and says honor is extraordinarily boring. He demands unconditional surrender.
As Bandor's ship comes in for a landing, Voltron appears and strafes Lotor, and then crashes through a section of the Robeast. This robeast, by the way, is huge. Volts forms the blazing sword, which is glowing red. The beast threatens him with tentacles, but that doesn't do him much good. Voltron charges Lotor's ship, but he escapes with Romelle. Optimus Prime explains to his that Voltron has to remain on Arus to help with the reconstruction.
On Doom, Lotor has taken Romelle to the Pit of Skulls. He has a firing squad shoot "stun beams" at her. The ground crumbles beneath her as she tumbles into the pit. Lotor laughs and gloats some more. Then Prime tells us she sees a glimmer of light as someone carries a torch through a cave towards her.
No Tomorrow for Altea
The narrater explains how Honerva sent Space Wolf to destroy Altea and trapped Golion on the hypergravity planetoid's surface. On Altea, we see Altea civilians gettin' blowed up by Sincline's fleet. Sincline wants Amue to watch as he dyes the surface of Altea with a sea of blood. Then we get a lot more explodening.
In Castle Gradam, Hys is strangling Raible in sheer terror, and then she starts laughing like an idiot. Then some tech appears on the screen (instead of Galaxy Garrison and says Space Wolf is carrying Golion away from Altea.
Alor is pursuing the planetoid. The yellow bolts hitting the surface was apparently generated by the planetoid itself, rather than the Heraclean fleet. As the team sits unconscious in their cockpits, voices try to rouse them back to consciousness--is that Shirogane for the boys' subconsciouses? It's Hys' screeching Fala hears.
First Alor tries to rouse them with low-frequency transmissions, and then they try to pull Golion away with their laser anchors.
I like the design of these Galra ships. Plus, it's been quite a few episodes since we've seen them/
Instead of infusing Alor's ships with energy, Raible sees that Golion's energy is running out. Oh, it must have been Raible's voice trying to rouse the male members of Golion.
The beastman is designated Nu. And it has an absolutely bizarre roaring sound effect.
Alor's crewmates are the ones who give him the idea to return to Altea. As Mecha Beastman Nu STOMPS on some Alteans. And then fricasees them. Raible seals off the "classified" sector of the castle as the beastman breeches the wall. The defences begin to fail as injured Alteans huddle in the castle. They wonder why Golion hasn't shown up yet.
Yeah, if you remember Voltron, and understand the Golion story of Golion's origins, you've probably figured out that the figure they see at the "end of the universe" is the same goddess who dismembered Golion for his hubris. The goddess infuses Golion with the power of a . . . sun? Huh.
It's kind of awesome that the Golion team is basically, ahem, awestruck that they just had an encounter with a goddess. And Golion is apparently on autopilot on its way back to Altea, letting them digest what just happened.
The return to Altea and defeat of the beastman is pretty routine. Then we get more footage of Sincline dragging Amue around by the hair. She invokes the name of the "Cosmic God." Then they dump her in the pit of skulls. And it's Sho Shirogane's voice she hears telling her to remain still before the shootin' starts. Sho who? Oh, we'll find out next episode.
This episode marks a couple of changes. This is basically that point in movies where things are bleakest for our heroes; Castle Gradam has been breached by the beastman and Golion looks to have been defeated--but then they're reborn stronger than ever. On top of that, this is the turning point where Galra's ruthlessness is offset by the growing ranks of Golion's allies. This is the first time someone other than Golion (Heracles) has taken the offensive. And there's only 12 episodes left, so the pace is going to increase significantly.
