This is another point where it's obvious the WEP team of writers are so crunched for time they've divided the episodes up amongst themselves. Even before I saw Dairugger, it was sorta obvious that these slaves were the men missing from Nephra's planet. But, no, WEP goes to the trouble of inventing another terrible planet name.
Revolt of the Slaves
We open on an erupting volcano on planet Flema, and Captain Flazon addressing the slaves--don't get any funny ideas about escape. Flazon is looking at a screen showing the Alliance fleet sitting in a lake of some sort. Flaxon is about to address three trouble maker slaves when Gorvil calls him and tells him that Voltron is on the way. Naturally, the slaves get ideas.
In the very next scene, one of the slaves begins plotting to escape, but the others at least convince him to discuss it in secret. In a storeroom or something. They plan to take a weapon and take Flazon hostage so they'll be prepared if Voltron does arrive.
The Explorer nears Flema, and the teams are watching the approach from orbit. Chip is excited--it may be like Earth was in the Dinosaur age. Hawkins orders the team to relax and get something to eat before they explore a new planet. Hawkins is hopeful that they will have no interference from the Drules.
Unfortunately, Gorvil (or whatever his name is) and his fleet are watching.
Chip walks into the air team's barracks and tries to awaken Wollo, and Jeff mocks him. Cliff approaches his team in the lounge and asks them if anyone's interested in enxploring. Crick walks into the women's bathroom and asks the women what they're doing after the exploration--having a party.
Flazon orders missiles launched at the grounded Explorer and her fleet. Hawkins launches anti-missile missiles and the teams launch and form Voltron. Voltron clears the missiles with spinning laser blades and the blazing sword finishes off the silos. The support fleet engages Drule fighters, and Hawkins warns Jeff of a robeast. Jeff is looking around for it when the robeast comes up behind him and knocks Volts over. Flazon is watching the battle from his control center.
The three slaves are plotting; something upstairs is happening.
The robeast is another goofy one, like a robot version of a two-headed stuffed dinosaur. The battle isn't going in Voltron's favor, however, and Flazon gloats.
The three slaves continue their plotting, and are discovered by a Drule soldier. Gene gets shot by a "laser stun gun." Uh-huh. The other two disable the soldier and take his weapon.
The Drule capital ships under Gorvil are moving in against the GG fleet while the Robeast has Voltron pinned down. Gorvil encourages Flazon to destroy Voltron. After Gorvil signs off, a mass of slaves enter, and one levels the stolen weapon on Flazon. Two soldiers edge in next to FLazon, and one disarms them. The slaves charge anyway and Flazon and his troops open fire with "stun guns." They are swarmed by the slaves anyway.
The Drule forces engage the GG ships and the Explorer and her fleet lift off and put some distance between themselves and the enemy. They then come up against Gorvil's fleet. Carver moves to engage this new fleet. Gorzil watches Voltron struggling with the robeast. He forms the solar combat spear and takes off one of its heads. Gorzil orders his XO to do something, then his screen goes fuzzy and Gorvil is upset that he can't watch the action. Voltron forms the blazing sword and finishes the robeast with several hits. Then Voltron takes off to do some exploring--and Chip sees a group of people emerging from underground. They wave a white flag. Voltron separates and lands.
On the ground, Cliff, Crick, and Jeff speak to the slaves. The slaves are from Basomere, and were enslaved by the Drules by some trickery. They've captured and locked up Flazon, but Gorzil is cordoning off the planet. Carver contacts Lisa and tells her that Gorzil is being reinforced by Neerok.
As Cliff goes to see what the rest of the team is monitoring, Lisa meets him and wanrs him of the reinforced fleet heading their way. Jeff assures the slaves that they will be helped, and then the teams launch and the air teem forms the Stratofighter, then Jeff orders them to form Voltron (???).
The fleets are heavily engaged. Carver wants Voltron to assist. The teams are happy to help out, carving up Drule ships with the blazing sword. Gorzil is trying to raise Flazon, and Voltron destroys his ship. Keezor watches the proceedings and is upset.
The fleet reforms, and Colonel Carver calls Hawkins. He is now free to explore. Hawkins has decided to help the slaves return to their home planet. Jeff is told by the slaves that they want to join the Galaxy Alliance. Jeff then leads them aboard the ships.
Jeff enters the bridge and talks while Hawkins acts confused. Did the writer of this episode has a stroke in this scene. Then Hawkins says Jeff sounds like he'd make a good politician. The teams are up on the flight deck, and the ships are preparing to leave. Chip is angry that they didn't get a chance to explore the planet. The slaves are waving farewell to their injured mates in the ship next to the Explorer. Hawkins then orders the Explorer to lift.
Uprising at the Space Fort
A volcano erupts and lava runs down its side. Nearby, metal hatches are closed in the ground. Beneath it is a vast complex decked out in Galveston purple. Galveston soldiers and a captain are watching the grounded GG fleet as it calls the Rugger Guard. This is captain Chilla; he orders the slaves to get their men in position to attack the Garrison fleet. Another captain appears on the screen and tells him to wait for the other ship, the Rugger Gaurd, to arrive.
The three slaves argue over fighting the Earth fleet. Some of them think they'll be set free if they succeed, the others think that it's all a ruse.
The Rugger Guard approaches the planet. The Rugger Teams and other crewmembers watch. Mutsu is all excited about the Planet of the Blue Light that Xuneau told them about. (Really? When did she do that?) Ise orders the crew to prepare for combat inspection when they reach the planet. He tells Aki to have the teams rest. The Rugger Guard passes a Galveston fleet. The captain says to let them pass--they'll strike when they lower their guard.
Mutsu bother Kreuz, and Aki bothers him in turn. Walter yells at his team for eating too much. Keats harasses the female members in the women's room.
The Rugger Guard has joined with the rest of the fleet, and Chilla orders the missiles launched. The Rugger Guard sounds the alarm and scrambles the Rugger teams, awakening Mutsu. Ise orders counter-missiles launched to cover the Rugger teams as they deploy and form Dairugger, The big Rugger clears the missile barrage with space cutters and the Rugger Sword, destroying projectiles and launchers alike. Hey, it's a battle montage! The attack stops, and Ise orders the ships to lift off.
A flight of Galveston fighters sweeps in from above and they return fire. Dairugger was just about to hit the enemy base when Ise recalls them. Just then, the battle machine knocks Dairugger down.
Chilla orders the Eldoran leaders assembled for a strategy session. The three leaders are still undecided if they should fight earth or Galveston.
Diarugger fights the battle machine with the whip weapon, and gets the tables turned on him.
The Eldorans are still debating when a guard comes upon them. He pistol whips two of them with a rifle, and one is killed trying to fight the guard off. The other two disarm the guard and beat the shit out of them.
The battle machine has Diarugger pinned. He breaks loose, and then gets hit with a beam weapon.
Chilla and the other captain agree to trap the Earth fleet in a pincers movement. Then the Eldoran slaves arrive and march on Chilla. The guards disarm them of their one weapon, but they charge into the guns anyway and pull them down with sheer numbers.
The fleets are locked in combat, and Ise decides they must leave the planet. They enter the blue glow (nebula?) again, fleeing the first Galveston fleet. Suddenly, they're surrounded in space by yet anoher fleet. An awesome shot establishes this when three energy blasts take out a destroyer next to the Rugger Guard.
Dairugger takes out one of the battle machine's heads with the spear. The other captain tries to contact Chilla (this is where he lost TV reception in Voltron). It's, um, 'cuz all the slaves done killed Chilla.
Dairugger destroys the battle machine and then takes off over the mountains. Mutsu picks up the surviving slaves. Aki just sees purple humanoidsand thinks they're Galveston. They raise a white flag. He lands, and their leader tells him that they're Eldorans. Aki says Xuneau sent them looking for them. Then Aki and Walter have to tell them that Xuneau died in a Galveston attack.
Date contacts Kagas and tells her they need Dairugger.
As they're discussing with the Eldorans, Walter goes to contact Ise, but Kagas meets him and they leave the Eldorans, promising to send back rescue craft.
The battle isn't going well for the Garrison fleet. Then Dairugger turns the tide. The Captain's name is Latour, and he wonders what the surface forces are doing. Then his bridge gets cut in half, he and his crew get sucked into space, and everything explodes. Luciano sees Latour's defeat and orders the frontline base to prepare for all out combat.
Ise and Date debate what to do with the Eldorans. Ise suggests sparing just one ship. The Rugger teams load the wounded onto the ship, but the Eldoran leaders beg to be allowed to fight aGalveston with Earth. Aki tells Ise that he's decided to allow the Eldorans to help the fleet. Ise is impressed with Aki's growth. Mutsu did a maintenance check on the ship being sent back to Eldora. Meanwhile, the healthy Eldorans are apparently going to be integrated into the crews of the rest of the fleet. The Rugger Guard prepares to launch, and Aki's team is ordered out for advanced recon again.
