Who's on First
Brack has a nightmare that security forces enter his quarters and execute him for treason. This is the second time a Drule officer has a nightmare that sets the tone for the rest of the episode
In the morning, Brack is pouring himself a drink when Nerok enters. He greets Nerok by pointing a gun at him. Nerok reveals that Brack has been left out of a meeting, and that the truce with the GG fleet expired. Brack swears to destroy the invades.
On the planet, the Explorer and the support fleet float. In space on the Explorer, Hutch and a couple of guys complain that they're board. Back on the planet in the Explorer, Jeff, Crick, and Cliff discuss Hawkins and Newley going to convince Colonel Cross to leave the planet.
H & N meet Cross. Cross reveals the military council is deliberating on a permanent base on this planet. Hawkins says that will justify a war for the Drules.
A robeast is being constructed. Brack and Nerok are looking down on it from an observation window. Brack convinces Nerok to join in his plan to overthrow Hazar. As they discuss it, the captain of the guards and two, er, guards enter the room and reenact Brack's nightmare. This time, however, Brack's troops level their rifles at the guards. Brack states his case to Nerok, who throws in with him. Brack says they'll arrest Hazar first, and Nerok agrees.
Brack speaks to his troops from a chariot fighter. The troops cheer.
In space, Mongo's fleet is approaching the planet. His job is to convince the GG fleet to leave the planet according to their own treaty.
The fleet approaches and the bridge crew warn Jeff, who's there in the absence of Hawkins and Newley. Their shuttle returns to the Explorer. Jeff meets them with the news. Cross is trying to explain the situation to the military council. Jeff watches from the flight deck as the Drule flagship splashes down across from them.
Mongo initiates communications with Hawkins. Hawkins tries to get more time--which Mongo isn't happy with. The Voltron force stews in the lounge, apparently listening to the exchange over the PA.
On Earth, the GG council debate the situation. Commodore Steele, no longer crazy, claims it was negligence that led to this situation, and that they must leave.
Hazar and his XO are mulling over the treaty situation. Brack and Nerok initiate their coup attempt. Drule soldiers fight other Drule soldiers. In an absolutely awesome sequence, Brack's troops shoot Hazar's XO, who uses his dead body as a shield to get to an escape elevator. He lands in an auxiliary command station. He summons Zabar and they other generals. Zabar arranges the counter-revolt preparations. Nerok's faction stages outside the auxiliary C & C. Hazar is told that a ship was dispatched to Mongo since the com system was under Brack's control. Just as Nerok breaks into the room, Zabar's forces wound and capture him. Brack rallies his troops for the final push.
Mongo wonders why the GG fleet hasn't left, as does the Voltron force, who worry about another battle. Jeff has flashbacks. Mongo finally contacts Hawkins, and he gives in and decides to leave. The Explorer lights its engines and lifts off in the rain. Cross' fleet remains as the weather changes again. Cross demands to know why Hawkins is leaving without orders. Newley cites the treaty as being more binding. Mongo's XO observes that the other Alliance fleet isn't leaving. Mongo broods.
As the Explorer is leaving, a drule fighter passes them, notifying Mongo of the revolt against Hazar. Mongo lifts off immediately to go to Hazar's aid. Despite the fact that Mongo is leaving, Cross finally agrees with Hawkins and orders the launch. Newley and Hawkins are pleased that he's finally seen reason.
At the Drule base, Brack has Hazar corneredin the auxiliary C & C. Hazar tries to convince him to surrender. Brack says he's leaving for another planet. Then Mongo arrives, express his relief that Hazar is still standing, and the that GG fleet has left the planet.
Jeff reflects on how close they came to a war, and that they now can focus on exploration again.
The Two Rebellions
Barataria is shot by guards for treason. Then he awakens, realizes it was a dream, and we get the title card. Barataria is drinking, and draws his pistol on the door as Lafitte enters. He offers Lafitte a drink, who asks him why he wasn't at the the emergency meeting. Turns out ol' Teles deliberately excluded Barataria from the emergency meeting. It was about negotiating with the Earth fleet for leaving the planet. Barataria is angered and smashes his glass.
On the planet, the Rugger Guard and the fleet float in the bay near the wreckage of the base. In the observation corridor, Aki, Walter, and Keats speculate on when they'll leave.
A shuttle carrying Ise and Asimov lands on the deck of Hagi's ship. Hagi, now wearing a beige uniform instead of his blue-gray one, tells them that Earth administration wants them to establish a permanent advance base, but Ise protests. Hagi is unmoved, though Ise tries to convince him to try to be more persuasive with the Earth administration.
A battle machine is being built. Barataria claims that Teles is too indecisive. He admits that he's going to be executed anyway, but he will show Galveston the true meaning of being a soldier. This is very Imperial Japanese Army. The Chief of security (Chief Saki), arrives to arrest him. Unlike in the dream, Barataria has troops stationed who in turn arrest Saki. Lafitte is shocked. And impressed. Barataria says all they have to do is take the planning room and assassinate Teles.
Later, he addresses his troops from a grounded chariot fighter.
Meanwhile, Drake's fleet approaches the planet. He warns Roche that fighting will ensue if the talks fail. They leave the fleet behind as the flagship prepares for planetfall. The Rugger Guard bridge crew is tense as the ship approaches and the captains' are still in conference. Aki rushes out to meet them as they land. They report that they have not reached a decision, but Hagi's negotiating with Earth, and they have to convince Galveston to be patient. Just then, Drake's ship splashes down across from the Rugger Guard.
On the bridge, Drake requests to speak directly with se. He doesn't mince words--they've been there for three weeks now! Ise persuades him to wait for another hour, but Drake reiterates that things can only move forward if they leave.
On the Galveston frontline base, Teles broods. His XO says a fissure is forming amongst the Earth forces, not realizing that a fissure has already formed in the Galveston forces. Lafitte and Barataria pledge themselves to success, and then begin the attack. They break into the planning room, and Teles manages to escape as the soldiers and officers there are all cut down. Their cries echo through the base. In the secondary planning room, he notifies everyone of the insurrection. Gramont and Morgan call up their own troops and begin putting down the revolt.
Lafitte is outside the secondary planning room, preparing to blast down the doors. They get in and start taking out the troops, but Gramont's men arrive and wound Lafitte, and end his fight. Gramont tells Teles that the other captains are cleaning up the revolt. Barataria rallies his remaining troops in the planning room.
The weather on the planet has gone stormy again, and the two ships face off across the bay. the Rugger teams are in their ships, and Aki has a bit of a flashback of fighting.
The hour has passed. Drake calls them to warn them, and Ise finally says he will leave. He tells him that he hopes Drake understand what it's like to disobey orders from the homeworld. The Rugger team feels the ship lift off, and Aki is releaved that Dairugger won't have to fight. The sun appears throught the clouds. Hagi is angered that they disobey their orders, but ise manages to get through to him, and he also leaves.
Before Hagi leaves, a messenger from frontline HQ arrives and tells Drake of the uprising against Teles. Drake gives the order to leave, then Hagi decides to leave as well. That'll teach him to be miscolored!
The sounds of battle reverberate throughout the frontline HQ. Barataria is now surrounded inside the planning room and Lafitte has surrendered. Teles appears on the comm screen and tries to get him to surrender. He shoots himself in the head instead. The other captains rush in with their troops and his remaining troops surrender. Teles looks at Barataria's dead body and calls him a fool for believing that fighting is the only way to accomplish anything. The Drake arrives to tell him that the Earth survey force is leaving. Teles broods on the emptiness of Barataria's rebellion.
The Rugger Guard and support fleet are moving through space, and Aki and the bridge crew reflect on current events.
