Voltron charges towards the Drule HQ. Keezor's adjutant has a new voice. They launch missiles at Voltron, who CUTS THEM WITH HIS SWORD. This is why Voltron is awesome. Colonel Carver holds the Explorer in reserve while his fleet moves in on the base. Keezor prepares to launch the first robeast. The fleet engages the robeast. Voltron is busy with the missiles while the beast is attacking the fleet. Jeff moves to join them. The engage the robeast while Carver's fleet goes to "locate the laboratory." They hit the robeast with the blazing sword, and it's done already. Good, 'cuz they've got a lot to do this episode.
Supro, Keezor's adjutant, goes "There goes another robeast." Keezor is confident that their trap will be more than enough for them. The fleet and Voltron have the Drule fleet backed up to the HQ. Carver sends Voltron in to the base to find the robeast factory. They separate and then form the subunits.
They enter the HQ and fight their way through passageways. They enter the place where the robeasts are manufactured and land. Jeff shoots some of the half-made robeasts, and then Drule infantry arrive. Cliff and Crick join them and cover their air team. Jeff brings the sea team along as they penetrate further into the base. They kill some more
They run down another long tunnel. They are at a crossroads when more androids appear and start firing. The teams are pinned down. Keezor sees them pinned down and gloats. Jeff charges through the enemy fire and does a flip past the soldiers, killing them. Crick saves his bacon, then they take some hovercraft to the reactor room. Keezor gloats some more.
They reach the main power source. It starts up and they crash one of the hovercraft into it. They're trapped in a room with solar power that Keezor plans to use to cook them.
Colonel Carver's fleet is fighting its way through the remaining Drule ships. The Drules restreat back into the HQ. Carver destroys many of them before they make it inside.
Chip decides to just shoot the ball of heat with the beam weapons on the hovercraft. It works. Huh. Keezor didn't think they'd just shoot their way out? They shoot through the door and place their explosives in the main power room. Keezor is angry that they just shot their way through. He sends troops in to stop them.
Jeff orders the bombs set with a minute to detonation. Then they take the hovercraft back to the ships, moving down Drule troops the whole way. Keezor sends the soldiers in to dismantle the bombs. They rush around looking for them, but it's too late. The explodening begins. Keezor snorts in frustration, then the teams get back to their ships. Keezor gets to the escape shuttles. How convenient.
Carver watches the base gradually exploding. The team is flying through the tunnels, and is trapped by explosions. Jeff crashes through the walls and they make it to the launch bays, but the doors drop down in front of them. Why don't they just shoot their way through the doors. Shafts of light shoot out of the fragmenting base as it comes apart. Carver decides to ram the bay doors with his ship. He gives his crew the chance to use the escape ships, but they're all with him. His ship punches through the doors, and the teams escape. We get the same shot a second time to represent Colonel Carver's ships escaping. Then his cruiser evaporates. The base also disintegrates.
Back on the Explorer lounge, everyone is relaxing in some stock footage. Jeff, Crick and Cliff are arguing. We also hear that Colonel Carver is stuck on the space station. Then we see the space station. It looks a lot better than it did the last time we saw it.
Destruction of the Front Line Base
Dairugger charges toward the Galveston frontline base. In the planning room, Luciano is confident in his preparations. The base launches short range missiles at Dairugger, who just chops them. Date tells Ise to hold back while his fleet takes the lead, leaving Dairugger to deal with the missiles.
The Galveston battle machine launches and the fleet engages it. Walter convices Aki to leave the missiles and fight the battle machine. As Dairugger chases it, Date says his fleet will attack the base. Dairugger cuts at the battle machine, but it catches the blade. Aki vaults Dairugger over the battle machine and destroys it on the downstroke.
Luciano's staff officer is dismayed at this, but Luciano is still confident. The Galveston fleets stationed at the base have now engaged Date's fleet. Date says he will keep them busy, and sends Aki in to destroy the base from the inside, all commando-style. Dairugger separates and reconnects into the subunits. They all fly in through separate bays and begin the mayhem. The air tugger makes it way into a factory where new battle machines are being built. They start destroying them, and infantry with rocket launchers appear. Walter and Keats arrives. Walter says he'll take the factory, and sends the other two teams on ahead. The sea and air Ruggers penetrate into another chamber and kill the infantry there. Aki orders both teams to dismount. He puts on Kagas' good luck charms. Infantry sneaks up on them as he orders the teams, and Aki is wounded in the arm. The others fight off the Galveston troops. Then the land Rugger arrives, and Aki leaves Walter as security, and the sea team follows air as backup.
They run through long corridors, keeping each other covered. They reach an intersection and are ambushed. Luciano watches on the monitor and does some premature gloating. As more troops arrive, Aki breaks them loose by being really reckless and somersaulting into an enemy position to flank them. Keats has to kill two more soldiers to cover Aki then. They board patrol craft to move faster. Luciano grudgingly admits that they're tough to counter.
Aboard three patrol craft, the two teams enter some sort of furnace chamber just as the furnace starts up. Aki and Patty abandon one craft to crash into the furnace, the doors close, and the furnace increases its output. They're trapped.
The support fleet drives the Galveston fleet back until they retreat to the base. Date orders his ships to fire on the retreating ships, destroying many--but the wreckage blocks the lower docking ports. He hopes that the teams think to use the upper docks.
Mutsu figures out that to disrupt the reaction-mass feed of the fusion furnace, he uses the patrol craft's cannon. It works. Really? Luciano didn't think they'd just shoot the furnace to get out? The blast a hole through the far door and reach the reactor core. They set the time bombs as Luciano starts to fume. He sends troops in while his staff officer just wants to evacuate.
Aki orders them to set the time to a minute, so they won't have time to dismantle them before they escape. The bombs set, they leave in the two remaining patrol craft. They plow through more infantry. Luciano orders them to stop standing and fighting and to disable the bombs. One soldier finds one just as they go off. The explosion starts a chain reaction. Aki celebrates as they see the explosions behind them. They start to hurry.
Luciano is mad. The infantry break off from their fight with the land team. The teams reunite and get into their ships. Luciano is still fuming when the explosions consume him. Date's XO warns him to back away from the exploding base, but Date wants to ensure that the teams make it out.
Inside the base, they find the way out the lower docks blocked. Aki leads them through the disintegrating base to the upper docks. The doors are lowering. They don't make it in time. SPears of energy shoot out from the base as it breaks apart. Date resolves to rescue the Rugger teams by ramming the dock. He orders his crew to abaondon ship. His XO and the bridge operators refuse to go, and charge into the base with him. Date contacts Aki and warns him of what he's doing. The ship punches through the dock doors and crashes in flames. The Rugger mecha escape from the hole. Date says they'll be right behind, but his transmission is disrupted by the energy engulfing the base. There is no time to abandon ship, and his flagship is destroyed in the blast. The Galveston base finally erupts in flames.
