Nerok Scores Big
We open on the ruins of the ancient spaceport. The Explorer goes to red alert as unidentified objects are detected, and the Voltron Force launches. The objects appear to be missiles. The teams form their subunits. The teams destroy the missiles in an extended sequence. Jeff takes a few risks to get the last three missiles, but they succeed.
At the Drule HQ, Hazar is scolding Nerok for letting his missiles get trashed. Nerok smirks. An "official" squadron with Marshall Keezor arrives with no notice. This must be bad news. Keezor and a troop of caped officers march into the planning room. Nerok is all smirks. Keezor announces that the council is relieving Hazar and replacing him with Keezor. We get reaction shots from the captains, all of whom are shocked. Except for Nerok. Guess what? He smirks. Hazar leaves the planning room and Keezor takes his place and proclaims that they are going to fight the Galaxy Garrison to the end. Hazar broods.
The teams return to the Explorer. Hawkins gets news that another support fleet is being sent.
At the space station, docking bays are opened and ships from every planet in the Alliance debark. Drule observers report this to Keezor, and he sends Mongo to deal with the fleet while Nerok is to go after the Explorer. Hazar broods until Mongo approaches him and tells him his orders. Hazar is understanding. Mongo takes his leave.
On board the Explorer, Professor Page is prescribing jogging and exercise to everyone, including Hutch. Ginger and Jeff walk down the corridor, dodging all the joggers. Crick, Jeff, Cliff, and Lisa complain about the constant fighting, and Lisa's carrot and cabbage juice. Then the alert sounds.
Nerok's fleet approaches and he launches fighters. The GG fleet follows suit, and the battle is joined. The Explorer and her escorts lift off as the Voltron force launches. As the conventional fighters fall, the Voltron force engages. Then the capital ships trade fire. Mongo's fleet approaches the support fleet at the same time. He finds out that this is the biggest fleet they've ever faced. Mongo gazes at the emperor's portait, then starts the attack.
Nerok deploys the robeast and it gets a grip on the Explorer. Then Nerok calls Hawkins and mocks him. Hawkins grudgingly orders a retreat. Jeff protests, and then forms Voltron. The robeast releases a smokescreen that we then forget about immediately. Voltron forms the blazing sword and misses the robeast as it leaps to the side, damaging the Explorer. The robeast then latches onto Voltron. Jeff urges Hawkins to fire on the robeast. Nerok fire on Voltron. The robeast loses its grip, then gets blazing sword. Volts escorts the Explorer out of harm. Nerok gloats.
Then we get stock footage and filler dialogue about finding a planet to make repairs--and Newley is on the bridge again!!
Ex-Commander Teles
The ancient ruined spaceport is not far from the ruined Galaxy Garrison Base. And its mass graves. Ise deploys the Rugger Team as unidentified objects are determined to be missiles. The teams form their subunits and engage. Three missiles make it past them, and Aki has them use a "limited warp formation" for extra speed. Walter protests for a moment, but they link up, catch up, and pull up.
Teles berates Lafitte for the missile launch, and laments that now Earth will respond violently and make the goal of finding a new planet more difficult. Lafitte sneers and says his duty is to thwart Galveston's enemies as well as find new planet. Suddenly, a fleet bringing Commander Al Luciano of the Homeworld Garrison. Luciano and his officers march to the planning room. Lafitte smirks.
Teles salutes Luciano, who doesn't return it, and stalks into the center of the room. He spends a lot of time staring wordlessly, then informs Teles of a decision reached during a Supreme Council meeting. Socrat Teles is to be releaved of his command, and replaced with Luciano. Teles accepts, but urges him to pursue peace with Earth. Luciano takes it under advisement. Drake watches him go. Luciano takes Teles' seat and says their duty is to wipe out Earth. Teles hears the announcement in the observation bay.
The Rugger ships are returning to the Rugger Guard. Ise is convinced that another attack is coming. Dewa contacts Ise and tells them of his decision. Ise calls Walter and Keats and informs them that Commander Date, the former commander of the space fortress, is now leading an allied fleet. We see the allied forces leaving the space fortress.
Drake is called to intercept this giant Earth fleet (they deisgnate it grade 1). Luciano orders him to crush the fleet. Drake protests that it will undermine Teles' efforts. Luciano basically says there's a new sheriff in town, and then he directs Lafitte to dispose of the survey force on the planet.
Drake approaches Teles to tell him a large fleet has been mobilized from Earth and that the war is essentially escalating. Drake has to follow his orders, and Teles broods. Lafitte's fleet launches as they talk. Teles still believes that he has not made any missteps. Drake bids his commander and friend farewell. Teles hopes he won't get himself killed. DRAMATIC FORESHADOWING.
Dr. Search is giving everyone fitness advice and has everyone, including Nagato running laps around the ship. Aki and Patty are dodging mad joggers. Including Nagato. They must all be going nuts under the stress.
In the lounge, Aki, Walter, Keats, and Kaga are discussing the locaton of the Galveston base. Now that they've decided it's time for war, they can't lose. Kaga accuses Aki of being too worked up. Then the alarm sounds as a Galveston fleet is sighted.
Lafitte divides his forces and launches fighters after the Rugger Guards support fleet in orbit. The support fleet deploys fighters in response. We get some pretty serious scenes of pilot death. On the planet, the grounded ships are frantically launching as the Rugger mecha are launched and join the battle. They plow through the flights of Galveston fighters. Lafitte orders the capital ships to engage the support fleet. The fighting is so intense we get a series of still shots, and then the Galveston ships are moving through wreckage.
The Rugger Guard is confronted with the advancing fleet. Lafitte orders them to take no prisoners, and then his XO tells him that Drake as reached the Earth support fleet.
Drake rejoins his fleet, and they move to cut off the massive fleet. He contacts Roche, who has been in command while Drake has been at the frontline base. Drake tells Roche that they are to destory the Earth fleet. Roche is somewhat taken aback.
Commander Date is told that the planet K is now under full-scale attack from Galveston forces.
The Rugger teams are now destroying capital ships. Lafitte launches the battle machine, which attacks the Rugger Guard's engines. Lafitte contacts Ise and mocks him, demanding he surrender. Ise asks for an update on the alliance fleet. It will take 32 hours for it to arrive. He decides to withdraw. He order Aki to clear a path for their withdrawal, but Aki doesn't want to lose the first battle. He forms Dairugger.
The battle machine is latched onto the Rugger Guard and launches . . . solvent? Then Dairugger lunges at him, misses, hits the Rugger Guard, and gets grabbed. Aki urges Ise to fire on Dairugger. Lafitte also fires on Dairugger, and the battle machine falls off. Dairugger plunches after him and cleaves him in twain. The Rugger Guard and Dairugger limp away from the battle while Lafitte moves in to occupy the planet. Oh, and he gloats a bit, reporting back to Luciano.
